Default Wheely King - Cheap upgrades?

I just bought a REALLY hardly used Wheely King for 100 and it's SWEET. I have to say they are bigger then i thought they are. Seems more like a 1/10th scale than 12th. What are some cheap things i can do to upgrade it? I have a Super Rooster around the house along with a 20T Scorpion by Traxxas. Would that be an alright upgrade for now?

That will help a little. The stock esc isn't very good.

One of the upgrades I'm most happy with is the team STRC straight axle adapters for the rear axle. Made the truck a lot more stable.

I happened to have a mamba max and a 4600 when I got mine so it was brushless from the start. That soon lead me to a metal gear tranny, emaxx driveshafts and the nitro mt2 diff gears

I got started with the wheely king mods when I started making my own links. Just changing the wheelbase made driving the King much better and more fun.

That kit isn't available anymore on rc4wd or anywhere for that matter, the only thing available from rc4wd for a link upgrade is this:
http://www.rc4wdstore.com/2/product_...roducts_id=394

Other than that getting shock/link mounts, custom made links, and a 4 link mount for the straight axles is ur best option and i read somewhere in here that doing that GREATLY improves the handling characteristics of a normally 3 link'd truck~

Would either of these work for a good y-harness?

How would the stock tranny hold up with this Traxxas Scorpion 20T Motor and a Novak Rooster?

Hey man. Im not sure about the y-harness. But, the truck will be able to hold up to that motor no problem. To be honest you could go with a hotter motor also. The traxxas says its a 20 turn. But in general they dont really run as fast as a open endbell of the same turn. Your speed control can handle a hotter motor also. When you feel like a little more speed you could pick up this motor. Everything would hold up just fine with this motor also.

Edit: it looks like the rooster will go all the way down to 15 turn.

thanks for all that info man. That 20T is better than the stock 27T and it'll be about what i want. I'm sure if i do a custom chassis and such for it i'll go to a 15 or something. Thanks again.

Default Venom Fireball

Dont waste your money on the Venom Fireball. I have blown up several of them. The armatures warp under extreme speeds. Just got done searching for a fast but cost effective motor that would take a beating. Found a great deal thru TEAM SCREAM RACING they build awesome motors. I have a dual motor Wheely King with Traxxas 16.8 ESC. I purchased two 19t Super Stock - Team Scream Atlas 19t for 48 bucks to my door. Check them out.

I was wondering what a 2400 Lipo would do to a stock WK? Would just changing the ECS help it or would it still be to much?

2s lipo power will just offer more consistant power from the fresh charge all the way to cutoff.

Venom motors = JUNK A total wast of money. Some even come DOA

That traxxas motor isn't much better than a venom either. Check the for sale section here. I know you can get a deal on something better. There is even one guy with 4 used working motors for 20 bucks in there.

To be honest, I would probably just leave it there. The reciever could maybe, go somewhere else. But, since the chassis is plastic you might want to keep it there for structural rigiditry. What you might be able to do is to dremel off some of the areas that arent needed for strength. That would cut down on the weight.

I got a 15t HPI motor and was thinking about dropping it in my Wheely King, would the stock transmission hold up or would I be stripping the gears to much? I'd keep the stock 21t pinon on it.

It could possibly strip the gears if you jam it into reverse i have heard people have used 15t motors with the hpi esc since it has the fail safe so you dont jam it into reverse. I just got my wk and am making mine a crawler with a 55t motor so i cant really help much, this is just what i have read.

Yeah, survival on a 15t really depends on driving style. I've run mine with a 4600kv on 2s lipo with stock tranny gears without a problem. But my son can blow tranny's, diff's etc with the stock 27t. It's all in how you drive it.

If you're a full throttle basher then your tranny gears (especially the internal slipper) will be short for the world. Keep an eye on motor temps with the stock pinion, I'd drop a couple of teeth to help it run cooler.

I'm about to see if i can drop a traxxas 23t pinon with a 86t spur and see how that works. It can haul some serious 000 with the 15t motor.

Well, the Traxxas 23t pinon with a HPi Racing 87t spur seems to run GREAT with the 15t HPi Racing Motor. Don't have any grinding from mashing the gas after going from reverse. It runs fairly fast with a 2400 Ni-MH battery.

check your temperatures

going from a 27t to a 15t normaly requires a smaller pinion, not a larger one.

If the motor, or ESC gets hot you need to drop pinion teeth or risk burning electronics up.
